MTHFRade
In case you need to know what MTHFR is see MTHFR Part 1
Dr Ben Lynch posted this post about a drink he invented MTHFRade a week or two ago.
I was reminded of it the other day when my friend Starlene from Gaps Diet Journey posted on my Facebook wall asking if I had tried it. That was the push I needed to go ahead and order what I needed and try it out. I was able to order everything through Amazon and it arrived very quickly.
I took his recipe (linked above) and made up my own version. I take 1/3 of a cap of the E-Lyte, 1 scoop of D-Ribose and 2 bioplasma tabs. I also add 1/2 a tsp of salt and 1-2 tbsp of lemon juice. Fresh squeezed is best. I put all of that into an 8 oz glass and fill it up with filtered water. It isn’t bad tasting but it isn’t exactly a treat either. What I have noticed is that I feel much more alert and clear headed when I drink this. I also have more energy and my muscles ache far less. I’m thrilled! I have also noticed that I am much more thirsty. I had stopped drinking much water (not a great idea when you are detoxing) and this is forcing me to drink much more. I am not, however peeing a lot more so I think this means my body is getting more hydrated like it needed to be.
I am drinking 3-5 glasses of this a day and really liking what it is doing for me. I haven’t started giving it to my kids yet but I am giving my youngest some bioplasma since she has been ill and complaining of muscle pain and weakness. It seems to be helping that too (but she is 3 so it can be hard to tell sometimes).
The more of this self treatment I do the better I am getting at listening to my intuition. I am feeling very strongly right now that I need to avoid my methylfolate and other b-vitamins right now. Like this MTHFRade is pushing some detox and I need to let it play out for a bit before pushing the methylation forward again so that is what I am doing. I’m feeling pretty good right now so I’m going to hold here till I feel like I need a change. (The waiting for things to play out is the most frustrating part of healing! I get so anxious to just get on with it!)
Have you tried this? What did you think of it? Do you have any tweaks of your own on the formula? Let me know in the comments! I want to optimize this as much as possible.

Hi Patty, I got the ingredients too and today is Day 3 for drinking four cups of this electrolyte drink. I was going to blog about it but got bogged down in paying bills and financial stuff so far this weekend. I ordered a different kind of D-Ribose than you but did get the same Bioplasma tablets and the electrolyte mix. I'm using my powdered Vitamin C and I had to add 1-1/2 teaspoons salt to my four cup's worth to make it taste better. I'm not sure if I'm seeing any difference yet. It is so hard to tell what is working sometimes! LOL! I couldn't get my temperatures to stabilize and had to go up on my HC and now my temps seem to be stabilizing. But then again it seemed like they were low when at home on the weekends and our house is cold, as opposed to being at work where the temperature is the same pretty much year round. Or, is it the MTHFRade? 😉 It is hard to be patient and introduce only one thing at a time! Also, thanks for the mention!
Hi Patty, I was wondering if all of these items are GAPS legal? Especially the d-Ribose?
Thanks!
Yes all of these are GAPS legal. The Hylands tablets contain lactose but NCM has said that the lactose in homeopathics is ok. D Ribose is a monosacharide and so it is also GAPS legal.
Hi Patty!
I bought al the ingredients and am using the vit c powder. I’m noticing increased gas pains after I drink this. Is there an ingredient in here that could be troublesome? Should I dilute it more? I think I saw that dr Ben said to put one scoop of d-ribose in one liter versus one cup?
I am also trying to follow his protocol for mthfr and have started the sublingual b12, tumeric, 2 multivitamins a day(dr ben’s), and DMG. Would any of these cause gas? I’m still nursing my baby and don’t want her to get anymore gassy than she is.
Thanks! Betty
Vitamin C can cause gas. I’m going to guess that is what your problem ingredient is. It is unlikely to cause an issue for your nursling, it is more of a local issue in your gut but keep an eye on her.
GI pain/symptoms are a common side effect/complaint about d-ribose. Some cannot take it this way (in a drink) but can let it dissolve under the tongue to minimize GI symptoms. Some cannot tolerate ribose at all. Check out d-ribose reviews online.
Are you still drinking this and liking it? I’m getting ready to order supplies to try it I think.
I don’t drink it every day although I should. I did drink it just yesterday though.
Why are you using Bioplasma tablets? I don’t see that in the MTHFRade recipe. It has E-lyte, vit C, creatine/magnesium, and d-ribose.
Also, I thought homeopathics are best taken without other food/flavors in the mouth?
We just got diagnosed with double MTHFR677 defects, so we’re going to try the MTHFRade…
Bioplasma was in the original recipe that I saw from Dr Lynch. Has he removed it now? It is also a bit different from other homeopathics and is more like a multi mineral supplement although not exactly.
