GAPS Diet Journey Radio Interview
Hi everyone. I had the pleasure this past weekend of being interviewed by Starlene of GAPS Diet Journey about our experience on GAPS. We talked about our experiences from the start till now and focused the most on my youngest daughter since she was why we started GAPS nearly 3 years ago. You can go to the website and listen with the link here. Patty and Family Healing on GAPS of Digestive Ailments. Or you can listen below. This give away is closed. Go here to see the winner and the bonus. I have the great pleasure of giving away one copy of Lisa’s Counter Culture E-Book. This book is a $37 value. Before I get to the give away I wanted to talk about the book. I have had an opportunity to read over this book and I am so glad I did! I love to read new cook books like novels and this one does not disappoint. The value in this book is at least as much from the extra information that she includes as it is in the recipes it contains. Lisa takes the time to explain so much about each recipe that she shares. Not just how to make it but what nutrients you can get from the food or how the stages of...

Watermelon Juice, Salsa and Water Kefir all fermenting in Pickl-it Jars. When it comes to fermenting, people who are contemplating the Pickl-it jars keep asking me one questing. “What do I need to buy to get started?” I have been giving that some thought. It will of course depend on how many people you are planning to be making ferments for and how much each person will eat. It also depends on what you are planning to ferment. Some fermented foods take a long time and need a dedicated Pickl-it jar that whole time. Other foods are ready quickly and can be eaten up quickly and free up the jar again for more food. One third issue to keep in mind is that as a food is eaten it will need to be moved into a smaller jar once the jar...

Those of you who have been following my blog for a while will know that my family has been on GAPS since November of 2009. Lyme disease and some other issues have certainly complicated our situation but still healing has not come like we had expected. You may recall my post from this past spring about taking my youngest to an enzyme therapist. (Read it here Enzyme Therapy.) She had been suffering with a daily stomach ache for months at that point in time. While I could often help it with essential oils or other approaches it kept coming back daily. Since it was gut issues for her that led us to GAPS in the first place I was very concerned that we were coming full circle and ending up back where we started. That didn’t feel good. I was very...

After a break last week cause I was too busy I’ve got another fermentation round up post to share with you. These are blog post from the past couple of weeks that highlight anaerobic fermentation. Recipes, experiences and the like. I hope you enjoy them! Of course there is my own recipe from yesterday Aunt Joanne’s Lacto-Fermented Watermelon Pickles. First I’ll start with some informative posts. Fermenting in a jar without an air lock can be a bit dangerous! Learn from Jennifer’s experiences. I am always careful to put my bottles of kombucha and water kefir second ferments in a box under a towel when I have them in flip top bottles because of stories like this one. Fermenting in any tightly closed container that allows gases to build up has this risk. Even a Fido! She also has...
