How to Dehydrate Peppers to Preserve the Harvest
How to dehydrate Peppers and other summer foods and preserve the harvest into fall. My family has a lot of food restrictions. Especially my 5 year old. She actually will eat nearly every food that she tolerates unlike many 5 year olds. Unfortunately it is still quite restricted. One of her favorite foods is red pepper. Conventional red pepper is one of the worst foods as far as pesticide residue is concerned and so since it is a larger than average portion of her diet and her health is so fragile, it is important that the peppers that she eats are organic. In the wintertime it can be difficult to find organic red peppers and they are very expensive as well. Last summer we got a lot of peppers in our CSA boxes. More than she could eat in...
Read MoreHarvest Your Health eBook Bundle GAPS and LOD Friendly eBooks!
This week only there is a pretty incredible bundle of over 70 ebooks for only $37. These books are worth over $1000 if purchased individually but these authors want to get more of these books into the hands of readers and so they are willing to let them go for a fraction of what they are worth. Less than 50 cents a book. Of course you won’t want every book in this bundle, nor will you be able to read every book in this bundle but that doesn’t matter. Even if you only want and use a fraction of the books in this bundle and even if you already have some of these books you will have gotten more than your money’s worth. I had the chance to look through each of these books. With more than 70 titles...
Read MoreSummer Picnic Foods Round-Up
Well here we are at the height of the summer picnic season. I don’t know about the rest of you but I rather dread having to go somewhere that I am expected to share a dish. This is largely because our food restrictions mean that I will have to also bring everything that my family eats, in addition to something that others can eat. It is rare for us to find much of anything that we can consume at a pot luck type affair that we didn’t bring ourselves. My other dread is the fact that after 3.5 years on GAPS and 2+ on the low oxalate diet (LOD) my taste buds have changed. I’m never quite sure if something that we like will taste good to a SAD (standard American diet) palate. The only thing worse than seeing...

Date and Nut Bars (GAPS, LOD) Bar cookies are great for how quick and easy they are to make. There are no exception. Quick to make and tasty to eat. Chocolate Coconut Fudge Bites by GAPS Diet Journey (GAPS) Chocolaty but not melty. These look rich and delicious and perfect to share at...
Read MoreGuest Post: Strawberry Lemonade Popsicles
Today I have a guest post from Starlene of GAPS Diet Journey. Starlene and I have been on GAPS for about the same amount of time and have become friends. She has a fantastic book full of GAPS legal recipes called Beyond Grain and Dairy as well as a book about Baking with Coconut Flour and her newest book of deserts called Everybody Loves Pudding. Not only are all of her recipes grain free and GAPS legal but they are also all diary free as well. I’m sure you will love this simple and festive looking recipe. I have not calculated the oxalate content for each popsicle but the only ingredient to be worried about at all is the Strawberries. Since they are just a small part of this small treat my estimation is that each of these popsicles is quite...
Read MoreQuick and Easy Sage Sausage Scramble
This quick and easy recipe can be used in all stages of GAPS. It can be used on intro stage 1 if you leave out the sage and use enough broth so that the meat doesn’t brown and stays soupy. I like to make this from ground chicken to mix up the meats that we are eating for breakfast but really any ground meat will work. I often forget to thaw my ground chicken and this cooks just fine from frozen although it takes a bit longer. This is also an excellent way to sneak some veggies and broth into family members who are reluctant to eat them for breakfast. If your family will balk at seeing bits of veggies in their sausage puree up the squash and broth and carefully mix it with the ground meat before cooking (use...
Read MoreSavory Wilted Lettuce Salad
We love our wilted lettuce salad but I don’t always have bacon on hand for my bacon version of it. I decided to try to make it with some different super foods and I think this one came out great! It can even be vegetarian if you use water or veggie broth. Greens like lettuce are in abundance this spring so it is the perfect time to make this salad. This recipe uses several superfoods that you may have at home already. Celtic Sea salt, Kombucha that has fermented till it is vinegar, broth, and coconut oil. You can use apple cider vinegar if you don’t have kombucha vinegar. ACV is about twice as acidic as kombucha vinegar so the recipe calls for half as much. Many of my blog posts contain affiliate links. Purchasing through an affiliate link allows me to keep blogging and sharing what I learn with you. It is a bit like leaving a tip for service and is very much appreciated. Thank You! -PattyLA One of my children can’t tolerate egg yolks. Because of that, I am working on developing some egg free, grain free, “bread like” recipes to meet her needs. Some are better than others. This one, oddly enough, she did not care for but the rest of us really liked them. In fact, we liked the egg free version better than the same recipe made with eggs (although both were good). You may find that your family needs more sweetener than mine does so feel free to increase the date/honey in this mixture as needed. While it is tempting to...

Many of my blog posts contain affiliate links. Purchasing through an affiliate link allows me to keep blogging and sharing what I learn with you. It is a bit like leaving a tip for service and is very much appreciated. Thank You! -PattyLA I was first introduced to Honibe hard candy several years ago when my family was following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. That is the diet that GAPS is based on and so many of the “food rules” are the same between the diets. This includes only using honey for a sweetener. It was a delight to discover these hard candies made only of honey. At the time they just had one product. Unflavored honey candies. They were simply dried honey. They marketed them largely as a convenient way to sweeten your tea with honey away from home. My children enjoyed these...

Hello friends. I am humbled by how many are out there reading this blog. Many of you I do not know and will never know. Yet, since I feel like you are along with us for this journey, I call you friends. As many of you know I took a break from blogging a few weeks ago because of a health crisis in my family. I am still not at liberty to share about that, but I will thank you for your prayers and ask you to keep them coming. It is not over, I’m just coming to a place of acceptance and am ready to get back to work. My family has been on a healing journey since before my first child was born. I spent much of 2002 using a wheelchair because of the pain I was...
