The state of My Health Summer 2012.
This isn’t the greatest photo of me. My hair is doing something strange and the shadows are weird across my face. BUT this is also one of my favorite photos that I have taken recently. It is commemorating my victory over sickness. I am in the park near my house where I walked with my children to meet up with friends. I travel to this park every week to meet these same friends but for the past 2 years that weekly meeting has involved a car if I was able to make the trip at all. On this day I walked the half mile to the park and I felt good doing it for the first time since 2010. I wasn’t sure I was ever going to be able to make that trip on foot again and I had...

Here’s a video for some inspiration for you. The ice man takes a cold dip So last week I shared about Dr Kruse and his Cold Thermogenesis protocol. Step one is putting your face into ice water daily to begin to get used to the cold. I have been doing it myself for a few days and have learned a few things. I’m also working my way through his blog posts as fast as I can (they are super dense) and have learned a bunch from that as well. First I’ll review. You need to dip your face in 50 degree water once a day. Keep it up as long as you can stand it and until your skin starts to turn pale pink/white then quit. It is best if you do this after a high protein meal and...

Here I am as a high school senior. I was young. I was strong. My brain and my body both worked well and I loved to use them. I ran track, acted in plays, sang in choirs and dreamed of a life preforming on the stage. I had limitless energy and a desire to experience life to the fullest. It is hard at times to remember what I once enjoyed and took for granted. It is my fundamental belief that my body wants to be healthy. I will never be 17 again but that doesn’t mean I can’t improve from here. I believe that everyone has within them the genes necessary to be healthy. That doesn’t mean that it will be easy or that my answer will be your answer. I’m just working my butt off trying to find...

Photo by eagle102.net Brrrr!!!! Doesn’t this look like fun? Jumping into icy cold water and hanging out for a bit? Many of you know I have been following the Leptin Reset for a few months. Less than a month ago, Jack Kruse came out with a new twist on this. You can read his first post on it here. I’m still trying to understand all of the science behind it but I am excited at the possibility of it fixing my thyroid. Mercola writes about it here. The basic premise is that you teach your body to adapt to the cold using ice water. This has massive impact on how your body works. If I can believe what he has said this will increase your metabolism, make your thyroid work better, fix your adrenal issues, resolve diabetes, and melt...

You can see my other posts about the Leptin Reset here Leptin Reset Leptin Reset Update #1 I feel like a new day is dawning for me but it is like this picture. Just barely visible. Hard to know how long till full light arrives. Of course I am a perpetual optimist so take that with a grain of salt. I always think that health is always over the next horizon. This is a bit of a disjointed update. I apologize for that. I have been busy on other blog and family business and realized today that I hadn’t updated my Leptin reset situation lately so I have dashed this off and am hoping I don’t miss too many typos and sentence fragments. It has been more than 2 months since I started the Leptin reset. Among other things I am...

Leptin Reset- First post I have now been on the Leptin Reset for just over 7 weeks. I’ still eating the BAB (big ass breakfast) although it isn’t quite so big or so fast. Today was 4 eggs, 4 slices of bacon and decaf coffee. A bit under 50 g of protein and I give myself a full hour to eat it now. I’m still not snacking. I do find that if I slack too much on my breakfast I want a snack later in the day. I had a big shift in my symptoms right at the 4 week mark so I took that as a sign that I didn’t need to be quite so strict anymore. A very interesting thing happened last week. I have been drinking 3 cups of coffee daily for several months. Once I...

Give up Snacking? In December? What am I, Crazy? One of my great joys of the holiday season is cookies and hot coffee drinks! And I finally figured out how to make cookies that we can all eat! With my usual jump in with both feet attitude I began the Leptin Reset the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I had learned about it the day before. Now to be sure it wasn’t a huge change from what I was eating already so that made it much easier to make the shift. It was simply a change of when and how much I ate the same foods I was already eating. So what is the Leptin Reset? In short it is a way to reset your bodies sensitivity to the hormone Leptin. Leptin is what tells you to stop eating. It should go...
