Egg Drink

This is what I reach for when I am in a hurry for a high protein breakfast but I don’t have time to cook or sit down to eat it. It is quick, easy and uses only real food, is GAPS approved, and can be made with only LOD ingredients ( Using Be Young Essential Oils will lower the oxalates significantly).

Egg Drink

Kitchen equipment
Hand Blender or regular blender*

Put all of the ingredients into your blender jar except for the water (I use my stick blender for this and use a qt mason jar to make it in). When you are ready to blend it add the water quickly and then blend right away. It will become smooth and foamy quickly. Pour into a mug and enjoy!

You can also put this into the refrigerator and enjoy it later as a cold drink. If you aren’t used to this much fat at one time you can make the drink with much less and work your way up. Also feel free to experiment with other spices and flavors and post your results. This tastes very much like a coffee drink without the coffee. A very yummy treat to start your day or any time.

*If you use a regular blender be sure to hold the lid on. The hot contents make it much more likely to leak or come off than when you blend cold foods
This is the stick blender I now have. Mine is black though. It is my 3rd one I think. I love it! It is metal so I don’t feel bad putting it into hot dishes like I did with the plastic ones and very sturdy and strong. I also like that I can adjust the speed. This is bigger than any other stick blender I have owned but worth the extra room it takes up.
So let me know if you make this and how you like it and especially if you try a new flavor combination that you think is fantastic!

  1. Patty, how close is this to eggnog once cooled? I have been craving eggnog. Thanks.

  2. It doesn't really taste like eggnog to me. Have you tried Cheeseslave's gaps eggnog recipe? It is really good. We have made it twice.

  3. Can you post some nutritional info?

  4. No, sorry. I will tell you that each egg has approximately 6g of protein so if you are doing the leptin reset this recipe as written can account for 12g of your breakfast protein requirement.

  5. Any raw egg okay or is it best to get farm fresh eggs? I thought pasteurized eggs weren't supposed to be eaten raw.

  6. Pastured eggs are always the most nutritious. I wouldn't recommend ever consuming pasturized eggs. The boiling water cooks the eggs so these aren't raw.

  7. Do you use whole eggs or just egg yolks? I'm assuming whole eggs since it just says eggs? It sounds yummy and I'm going to have to give it a try!! Thanks for the great idea!

  8. Yes whole eggs go into this.

  9. Patty- I modified this today for my kids as a snack. Instead of doing a smoothie with a kefir/yogurt base I decided to boil a cup of coconut milk, and pour it over three eggs while blending. Then I added standard smoothie fare- 1 tbs peanut butter, 1 tbs coconut oil, 1 banana, 1/2 package of frozen strawberries. This made about 3 cups. I know a lot of people don't do well with fruit or nuts. I try not to do too many fruit smoothies for this reason. However, our lunch time was all messed up today, so I wanted to get some extra eggs and fat into them and this was the best way.

  10. Annie Beth,
That sounds great! We don't do much fruit here at all but if we did I would have to try that out.

  11. So happy! My kids loved this! And I was ecstatic to get that much fat into them for breakfast! My friends are going to looove this! Thank you so much!

  12. Just tried this and it is great! My picky kids even liked it! I used Stevia instead of Honey. Thanks!

  13. I HAVE to try this, however, at the moment I cannot have sweeteners of any type, not even stevia, so I think I’m going to try modifying this to a savory drink instead by omitting the cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg and adding garlic powder, onion powder, and realsalt. Any other idea on how to make this a tasty savory drink?

    • Some have made this using broth instead of water for the liquid to make it savory. What flavors do you like in broth?

      • That’s an awesome idea! With broth, I can add so much flavor!

  14. This is excellent! I almost didn’t put the whites into the mix but I did thinking the hot water would cook them a bit. So glad I did because it made a froth. Going to have this daily just to get the good fat and might lose a few lbs. haha

  15. Enjoying my first mug of this now. I am wondering if I can decrease the water a bit. I made a double batch but didn’t double the coconut oil or honey. This will be fun to play around with. Thanks for another great recipe!

    • Certainly! Play with it to get it just as you like it.

  16. I made this drink this morning. It was yummy. Thank you!

  17. I am always looking for ways to get more protein and good fats. Thank you! I just made this, and it’s great! I think I’ll try adding yogurt tomorrow.
