Last Minute GAPS Gifts!!!
It is crunch time! Christmas is almost here! Do you have a GAPS person in your life that you simply don’t know how to shop for? Or perhaps you are a GAPS person and someone in your life just let you know that they are still stumped. I’ve got some ideas for you here. If you order them with Amazon Prime by the end of Thursday they should make it just barely in time so get going!
1.
I’ll start with one that makes an excellent gift and isn’t going to break the bank. We love our spiral cutter for making spaghetti from zucchini (Zucchini Noodles). That alone makes it worth it for my family.

Next up is a great knife. The better the knife the easier all of your prep chores will be. When I got my first good knife last year for Christmas I was amazed at how much easier it was to use! I had no idea what I had been missing. I use my chefs knife more than any other and this one is a terrific one!

I would find it hard to do GAPS without a good food processor. 2 years ago I learned that the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Food Processor does not have BPA in the bowl and so I invested in it. I am hard on my food processors since I use them a lot. I have purchased expensive ones and cheap ones. They rarely last longer than a year before I need to replace them. My first Big Mouth lasted just over a year and so I promptly went and purchased the same appliance again. It lasted just as well as any of the other more expensive machines I had tried and it is a much more economical food processor than some other options.

I have heard great things about this Ice Cream maker. I’m not convinced that the one I have is all that great (it was on sale at Target) so I’ll suggest this one instead. Ice cream making is such a great way to give yourself a treat on GAPS. Make it with fermented heavy cream, or coconut milk, or a fruity sorbet. It can be as sweet as you want and no nasty antifreeze in it like commercial ice creams, not to mention the lactose, sugar and other ingredients that are hard on GAPS tummies.

5.
My 22 qt roaster is another kitchen appliance that I use a lot on GAPS. What I like it for best is making a lot of broth at one time. I can fill it up with bones and make up a lot of broth all at once. When I am wanting to make some dehydrated broth I get this out and fill it up to get a lot of broth all at one time.

This is a luxury but one that I love to use. My lovely enameled cast iron pot is so perfect for making winter stews and soup. It heats so evenly, cleans up easily and looks pretty on the stove and on the table. I got a Lodge Brand Enameled cast iron pan first and within a few months the interior enamel was discolored and chipping off. I will not get one of those again. The one I have now is made in France and fantastic. Get a nice big one to make large batches of GAPS soups in it.

A great apron is another fantastic gift for most people on GAPS. You spend so much time in the kitchen why not look cute while doing it? My whole family has aprons in our own sizes from a friend’s Etsy store that she custom made us. It may be a bit late for a custom order in time for Christmas but you can still get a cute apron for the GAPS Chef in your life. This is just one example of the many styles and colors out there.

New, Non-toxic Bakeware. So many of us collected non-stick bake ware in our pre-GAPS lives. Replacing it all with non-toxic alternatives can take time and be a low priority. \ That makes it a great gift! I love my Stainless Steel cookie sheets. I also have some of the Better Browing pans and am very happy with them as well.

One appliance that is not essential on GAPS but it makes the diet much easier is a good dehydrator. I use mine for making yogurt, drying fruits and veggies to preserve them, drying out crispy nuts (for the non-oxalate sensitive members of my family), making our own jerky and so many other things. I love my 9 try excalibur and would recommend it to anyone wanting to invest in a dehydrator. What a thrill it would give on Christmas Morning to surprise a GAPS chef with one of these!

Nearly last but far from least, no GAPS home is complete without a high quality juicer. This piece of equipment gets put off because of price and yet it is central to the GAPS program. I had purchased a cheaper juicer at first thinking that the difficulty of cleaning it would be off set by the price. I was wrong. It became used less and less frequently until I finally stopped using it completely. I have just purchased an Omega Juicer like the one pictured below and am hopeful that the reported ease of cleaning it will get me again juicing for myself and my children. I have heard nothing but good things about this brand and style juicer and I can’t wait to get started again.

For one final GAPS gift I will mention the appliance that I use pretty much every single day in my GAPS kitchen. My Kitchenaid Hand Blender. This is the one that I have and I use it all the time for lots of different things. I also have the Whisk Attachment and the Chopper Attachment. Those aren’t used as much but sometimes they are the perfect tool for the job.
So there you have it. My top 10 ideas for last minute gifts for the GAPS person in your life. If you need more ideas you might check out my list of favorite GAPS cook books.

I’ve been researching different food processors that do well with lots of shredding. I’ll have to check this one out because most of them I’ve seen don’t get stellar reviews. You like the Hamilton Beach best?
I am very happy with it and use it all the time! The one I bought most recently has a fault in the wiring that I sent back to get repaired (for free) and now I am missing it so much!
I love my ice cream maker, dehydrator, and enameled cast iron. Great list!
Thank you - and we placed an order from your website. I’m eager to see about making “noodles” from dandelion roots, including a new use in making dandelion tea! Ruth
